Is it right or is it wrong?
Is it Yin or Yang?
Is it black or white?
We can argue the toss about many things in life, find grey areas and cajole over semantics however there are some things that cannot be proven owing to a lack of evidence and can, therefore, be completely dismissed without evidence.
Grasping at straws in order to "keep the dream alive" by claiming "you can't disprove (what I claim)" just doesn't cut the mustard. Otherwise, we would be living in a world of utter chaos whereby anything that anybody could ever conjure up is (or could be) so purely because it cannot be ruled out.
But this is the real world where common sense prevails and we must accept the fact that if there is no evidence for something, that something just ain't so.
For example, in most civilised countries justice is founded on the principle that one is innocent unless "proven" guilty. An accused murderer does not need to provide one piece of evidence in order to be found innocent.
So, here is a list of some of the more popular contrivances that are wrong by default. That is, there is no viable evidence whatsoever to support them being so.
* Clairvoyance
* Astrology
* Chiropractics
* Acupuncture
* God
* Fairies
* Angels
* Noah's Arc
* Naturopathy
* Organics
* Anti GM
* Miracles
* Anti vaccination
* Afterlife
* Spirit
* Supernatural
* Soul
* Prophecies
* Beyond science
* Heaven
* Hell
This list is by no means definitive nor comprehensive, but it just goes to show that there are still many myths bandied around in our modern age of freedom of information.
Protectors of these "wrong" beliefs will quite often hide behind the shield of "supernatural" or "beyond science" or "an experience". But, of course, each one of these conditions takes us back to the central argument; there is no proof whatsoever to claim any of them as true.
It also goes to show that so long as there are those who are naive and gullible there will always be charlatans who take advantage of them.
